What’s Your Saga? & Apes Galore…It Must Be Comic Book Quickies!

Quickies by Shaun Daniels and Edited by Sharon Wong

Saga Issue 1

Written by Brian K. Vaughan, Art by Fiona Staples and Published by Image Comics.  Retail Price $2.99

You got sci-fi in my fantasy, or is it you got fantasy in my sci-fi?  OK, we know it’s not the first time that someone mixed fantasy and sci-fi together in a story.  More importantly with Saga is that it marks the return of writer Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Runaways) to comics from his script writing days on TV’s Lost.  Teaming up with him on his first venture back  is the über-talented artist Fiona Staples (Northlanders).  The story follows star-crossed lovers Marko & Alana, who hail from opposite sides of the galaxy and opposing sides of a massive, never-ending galactic war.  The pair have become first time parents in the war-torn outer space and are just trying to raise their little bundle of joy.  Vaughan and Staples have crafted a fully fleshed out galaxy filled with tech and magic with Saga, which has sold out its first printing and returning to the presses for a second.

Exile on the Planet of the Apes

Dr. Zaius!!  Dr. Zaius!!!!  Hot on the heels of Betrayal of the Planet of Apes comes Exile on the Planet of Apes.  Corinna Bechko (The Liar, Heathentown) and Gabriel Hardman (The Liar, Agents of Atlas) return as the creative team with Hardman handing over the art chores to the talented Damian Couceiro.  Exile finds Doctor Zaius with the task of keeping the city from destroying itself and trying to unite warring factions.  The world of the Apes is hanging on by mere threads but there is hope, or better yet help.  This help comes in the form of a disgraced former general though finding him means journeying to the forbidden zone.
