Today, I am joined by the masterminds behind Pennsylvania’s Drive-In Super Monster-Rama and the April Ghoul’s Drive-In Monster-Rama, both held annually at the Riverside Drive-In in Vandergrift, PA, George and Gene!
We take a dive into a film that is post Night of the Living Dead, but still has its roots in Voodoo. We tackle the Blaxploitation flick, Sugar Hill, from 1974, starring Marki Bey and Robert Quarry. When nightclub owner Langston refuses to sell out to local mob boss Morgan, he is beaten to death by Morgan’s thugs. His grief-stricken fiancee, Diana “Sugar” Hill, vows revenge for his murder and turns to aged voodoo authority Mama Maitresse. Together they conjure up the demonic spirit of Baron Samedi, who agrees to help Sugar. He raises an army of zombies and sets them upon Langston’s killers.
We have a fascinating discussion about this minor classic!
