Amateur animator, filmmaker hobbyist, and monster movie/bad film historian, Mark Bailey joins me today as we continue our dive into post-Romero zombie films! Today we tackle another amazing Korean zombie film, Rampant from 2018!
From the producers of Train to Busan, Rampant takes place in the 1600s in the Joseon area of Korea where Lee Chung, heir to the throne, returns home to take care of his dead brother’s final wishes. However, Chung and his assistant find that there is a nefarious sickness going on causing people to turn into zombie-like beings that the locals refer to as “demons”. As he encounters difficulty from all sides between his father the king to the corrupt minister of war, Kin Ja-joon, to the oncoming zombie apocalypse that not everyone believes is happening, Chung must not only fight against the odds to protect the people, but also overcome his arrogant shortcomings.
If you haven’t heard of this film, we highly recommend that you check it out, and come back for our great discussion!
