7.8-10.2011: What To Watch – Theater Edition

It’s very quiet on the box office front…no surprise after last weekend’s fireworks of Transformers: Dark of the Moon.  No fear, Fading of the Cries is here.

Fading of the Cries  Starring Jordan Matthews, Hallee Hirsh (TV’s ER), Brad Dourif (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Priest), Thomas Ian Nicholas (American Pie), Elaine Hendrix (Superstar) and Mackenzie Rosman (The Tomb).  Written and Directed by Brian Metcalf (Sorrows Lost [short]).

In very limited release in Los Angeles (at Culver Plaza Theatre and Mann Chinese 6) and New York (at Village East Cinemas), Fading of the Cries is an action/fantasy/horror movie that is heavy on the FX.  Why?  The movie is directed by FX artist Brian Metcalf.  It was released in the UK on DVD in May and will also do the same in August in the US.

Synopsis:  Jacob (Matthews), a young man armed with a deadly sword, saves Sarah (Hirsh), a teenage girl, from Mathias (Dourif), a malevolent evil that has begun plaguing a small farmland town while in search of an ancient necklace that had belonged to Sarah’s uncle (Nicholas).  Jacob sets out to get Sarah home safely, running through streets, fields, churches and underground tunnels, while being pursued by hordes of demonic creatures.  Along the way, both come to terms with the demons within themselves – Sarah begins to understand her hatred towards her mother (Hendrix) and sister (Rosman) may be unjustified and Jacob discovers the secrets of his past, realizing the only way to truly defeat the demons is to return to the very place his family was murdered. courtesy of Ratio Pictures LLC
