7.19.2011: What To Watch – DVD/Blu-ray Releases

The Doctor is in.  In?  But for what?  The first half of the sixth season of Doctor Who.

Doctor Who: Series Six, Part One on DVD and Blu-ray.  Starring Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill.

The eleventh Doctor and friends just finished up its record-breaking seven episode run of the current season in June on BBC America and are prepping for the rest of the season which was, for the first time, partially filmed in the U.S. (Utah).  With six episodes left, the September premiere of the second half will air for only two months before the part two DVD/Blu-ray release in November.  For the complete sixth season, wait until the end of the year to buy a gift for yourself for the holidays.

If you’re lucky enough to be in San Diego this Thursday to Sunday with the much coveted San Diego Comic Con ticket, stop by the BBC America booth (#3629) for everything Doctor Who including Con exclusives.  On Sunday, July 24th, actors Matt Smith & Karen Gillan, writer Toby Whithouse, and executive producers Piers Wenger & Beth Willis will be appearing for a panel and Q&A.  You’ll even see sneak peeks into the last half of series six.

Synopsis:  The Doctor (Smith), Amy (Gillan) and Rory (Darvill) find themselves in Sixties America, battling the invasion the world forgot, then journey on the high seas of 1696 aboard a pirate ship, to solve the mystery of the Siren.  In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape.  And waiting for them, at the end of all this, is the battle of Demon’s Run, and the Doctor’s darkest hour.  Can even the truth about River Song save the Time Lord’s soul?  Only two things are certain.  Silence will fall.  And a good man is going to die…   courtesy of Amazon.com
