Then Is Now Podcast – Ep. 77 – 13 Days of Hallowtober 2021 – Zombi 2 (1981)

John Grace, from the Midnight Movie Cowboys podcast, returns! He previously joined us on the Kung Fu Zombies episode as well as joining Patsy and I on our other show, the East Meets the West! This is the penultimate episode of our yearly event called 13 Days of Hallowtober in which we’ve been discussing modern zombie films, that is, zombie movies that came after or were inspired by George Romero’s 1968 horror film, Night of the Living Dead. His movie inspired a couple of generations of filmmakers, and while his “rules” for zombies have changed from time to time, the spirit of his films continues on.

And nothing is more closer to his films than the one we are going to talk about today, and while it’s dubious in its claims of being a sequel to Dawn of the Dead, it nonetheless is a fun, scary, and gory romp in the world of the zombie apocalypse!

I’m talking, of course, about Lucio Fulci’s 1979 flick, Zombi aka Zombi 2 aka Zombie Flesh Eaters. A New York reporter (Ian McCulloch) follows a woman (Tisa Farrow) to an island where a doctor (Richard Johnson) faces an epidemic of the undead. It’s got roots in both the Romero films and Voodoo, so join us for a fascinating look at a rare gem!
