The East Meets The West

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

In my enjoyment of Podcasts, I have yet to find any info on two of my favorite subjects: Spaghetti Westerns and the Shaw Brothers films.  Sure, there is ample information on the web about both, and podcasts dedicated to Asian Cinema, which I love.  Some podcasts have touched on both subjects, but none exclusively to either.  Both are beloved, but niche genres, so I decided to combine them into one podcast.

While America has had some great Westerns in its film and TV history, Spaghetti Westerns are western-themed films produced mainly in Italy, and are often co-produced with production companies from around the world. Here we will focused on movies produced from 1964 to 1968. We will explore the origins of these films, the players involved both in front and behind the camera, and the various themes explored in this genre.

Asian Cinema is vast, and to cover everything would be daunting.  We are going to focus on the Shaw Brothers, a production company started in the 1920s which is most famous for its Martial Arts films, and particularly bringing the Martial Arts craze to America in the 1970s.  Primarily, we will examine the Martial Arts films of Shaw, but will also cover some of their other genres including horror and drama.

Join us on this journey as we explore both types of films and together we will learn incredible things about such cult cinema extravaganzas!
